Business Sustainability Review

This service assesses a company’s long-term business growth potential following the principles of Symbiosa Business  Sustainability (SBS). Any company or any investor interested in assessing long-term prospects of the business (e.g. as part of any M&A due diligence) will find this service of great value. Business Sustainability Review® (BSR) service also delivers benefits for companies wishing to assess their priorities for a major business transition. For a full business case for BSR please click here.

The purpose of this review is to analyze the coherence of the company’s growth components andthe consistency of the implementation of its objectives in the context of long-term growth strategy. This is the easiest way to dramatically increase the company’s effectiveness because business coherence reduces waste and any savings are added straight to the bottom line. The review consists of workshops, interviews and three surveys containing 116 purely non-financial criteria:

1.   Balanced Growth Assessment – what is the growth potential and how well it is balanced, covering:

  • Strategy and Values (Strategic objectives, strategy clarity, Corporate Governance policies)
  • Leadership (Management style, financial rewards, participation and co-operation)
  • Management of business growth (The clarity and managerial skills)
  • Human Capital Management (Organisation, job structure, competencies, rules, resources and facilities)
  • Relationship Management (Relationships with shareholders and other stakeholders)

2.   Longevity Assessment reviews opportunities and risks for business growth, providing an overall
investment risk, important for institutional investors.

3.   Relative Ethical Assessment assesses how ethical is the company’s business and hence its Reputational
Risk – a major factor in customer retention.

The service starts with short workshops for senior management and randomly selected employees. We explain basic concepts of Corporate Sustainability, including key principles of the sustainability of business growth. We also discuss follow-on scenarios using examples of other companies’ transition towards more sustainable business growth.

Over a period of 2-4 weeks we carry out an anonymous surveys and interview some senior staff and randomly selected employees. This is the basis for a strictly confidential Report, which measures the company’s long term growth potential. It compares the company in an index against its sector competitors and other companies (currently all FTSE100). At a more detailed level, it compares the views of the company’s senior management and employees.

We can also do, if requested, a review of business perception by some of the company’s stakeholder groups (investors, customers, suppliers and the community). That gives a powerful additional insight on how the company’s relationships with a given stakeholder group can impact growth. An example of an overview graph is produced below. There are over 20 more detailed graphs supported with further analysis.

The conclusions from the BSR Report can be linked to possible follow-on solutions to make the company more adaptive to changes in the market and business growth more sustainable. Evidence shows that business conducted in line with the SBS Principles of Corporate Sustainability could deliver in the long-term better than average return with lower than average risk.

To achieve such results, the company may need a specialist support. If Sustensis is requested to provide such a service, we would implement the agreed solutions in small stages. This will minimize disturbance to business operations.

You can request a free Sustainability Principles Assessment of the sustainability of the company's long term growth. This pilot Assessment can provide a valuable input to a full BSR. The free Preliminary Assessment is only intended for the employees of companies for which they actually work. Therefore, to qualify for a free Assessment and the delivery of the results we request to provide your email address at the company you work for, rather than your private email address.

The results will show the relative position of your company's adherence to the SBS principles compared with other companies that have been assessed. We would advise you to familiarize yourself with the business case for BSR before you respond to this Survey.
